History

In the 1920s

Jay L. Smith, a New York salesman for the National Lead Company, saw a growing need for brass and bronze specialties. He founded Jay R. Smith Mfg. Co. in 1926 to manufacture these specialty products. The company was established on a solid foundation of fair dealing and customer service.

70 Years Ago

Smith Chrome Plating and Polishing processes were established to add a decorative touch to Smith products. Today, many Smith products display our decorative plating and polishing processes, including floor drain strainer heads, cleanout covers, hydrants, downspout covers, trap primers, and a variety of our specialty products.

In the 1980s

Smith’s chrome plating and polishing operation was expanded to take on outside work from companies in a variety of markets, including antiques; automotive and motorcycle parts; dental, surgical, and hospital equipment; fire protection equipment; food processing equipment; and retail display equipment.

Smith’s operation is designed to handle frequent changes of items to be plated, and all plated parts are thoroughly inspected to control quality.

Today

Smith Chrome Plating and Polishing has the experience that comes with longevity, plating with a variety of processes, and experience with products in many different markets. We continue to share Jay R. Smith Mfg. Co.’s family atmosphere, strong safety record, and reliable employee base.
